The Story
United Future was a liberal-centrist party, founded on the principles of family, principled leadership, common sense, compassion, and integrity. The party was formed in 2000, from the merger of liberal centrist party, United New Zealand, and Christian-dominated conservative, Future New Zealand. The mission of the party was to make New Zealand the best place in the world to live, work, and raise a family whilst celebrating multicultural diversity and welcoming innovation.
Throughout the years of its existence, United Future was known as the constructive and stabilising partner of the NZ government. They were able to make a positive contribution to the country by living up to their mission statement.
However, as they say, all good things must come to an end. After seventeen years of service to the Kiwi people, in November 2017, United Future has decided to disband the party. Sad as it is, they seek consolation on the fact that they have made a positive impact on the people and on the government.
The Leaders
Damian Light
Damian is a firm believer of diversity and tolerance at all levels of our community. He was the first openly gay leader of a political party in New Zealand. He was an advocate of social justice and environment preservation.
Peter Dunne
Peter Dunne was the leader of United Future from 2002 to 2017. He held the party's sole seat in the Parliament. He strongly supported decriminalisation of homosexuality and has consistently favoured more liberal drinking laws. He was passionate about promoting strong families and vibrant communities.
